First Year Weekend
Come join the annual L.A.S. Terra First Years Weekend! This weekend trip within the Netherlands is a great opportunity to get to know your classmates, participate in a fun itinerary we've put together, and enjoy a break from studying and stress!
This year FYW will take place from November 6th to November 8th. We will be transported by a private bus directly to the accommodation, where your stay, food, and all the itinerary is covered for by your 67 Euro participation fee! That includes everything you could need on the trip. More details about the itinerary will be announced shortly. Reuvens Jewelry Making
Join us Thursday the 24th in the van Steenis (E0.03) from 14:30-17:00, for the Reuvens bead jewelry event, free of charge!! We’ll be showing you how to make very fashionable bead bracelets and necklaces, with an emphasis on getting that perfect Byzantine and Levantine look. Get-To-Know Game Day
Looking for a fun way to get to know your fellow archaeology students for the upcoming semester? On September 18th, from 13:00-17:00, L.A.S. Terra will be hosting a chill board game and card games afternoon. Join us after your lectures for free snacks and good vibes! We’ll have games such as Uno (3+ variations, in fact), Set, Ligretto, and more. If you have any games you’re particularly passionate about, feel free to bring them along as well.
Join us in room E0.02b at any time on Friday! After 17:00, we’ll migrate to Café de Keyzer for the first Terra drinks of the year. It’s your choice to join us, but if you do, early birds get a free drink on us (within the first half hour) to celebrate the start of the year!
Terra Foxhunt
Are you excited for Terra events to start back up again? Whether you’re a first year student, new to the faculty, or an ancient artifact of Van Steenis, we hope you’ll join us for the first event of the year: the Terra foxhunt!
On Tuesday, September 15th, starting at 17:00, you can join us at Bos van Bosman for a scavenger hunt-esque competition. We will have music, snacks, and drinks for you to enjoy (all for free!) as you move between challenges set up by our region-based subgroups. Compete in games that may test your trivia abilities, sport-aligned talents, and other secret skills you may not even have known about. At the end there will be a prize for the first team who solves our puzzle, so come ready to win!
(Please note: if we think we’ll get too heavily rained on, we’ll move the event to Wednesday the 15th, so keep an eye on the weather and our Instagram/Whatsapp)
Palynology and Botanical Art
Come join L.A.S. Terra and the LBC on a rooftop garden to learn all about flowers, pollen, and how to draw them! We are joining forces to bring to you two short talks on archaeological use of pollen in palynology, as well as botanical drawings and how to make them yourself. Lauras Youssefl will explain how plants were used in archaelogical contexts, and botanist Marco Roos will give a workshop on botanical drawing and aquarell. All materials for this workshop will be provided by us, so no need to bring anything but your cheerful self :)

Join us at the yearly L.A.S. Terra symposium on May 7th and 8th for two days packed full of lectures, museum tours, and workshops. Expect riveting discussions of celebrations in Islamic Spain, protective deities and their festivals in early modern east Asia, prehistoric rituals in Japan, and more. Additionally, we will be providing opportunities for workshops at the Wereldmuseum, as well as tours of collections at the Wereldmuseum and RMO custom-made for celebrations!

Experimental Days
The Experimental Committee is proud to present: The Experimental Archaeology Days of 2026!🌾🔥
They will take place on April 23rd and 24th at Van Steenis! On the first day you can look forward to the workshop day filled with practical hands-on approaches to experimental archaeology. Expect glass bead and bone needle making, beer brewing, flint knapping and experiments in the lab! 🦴🔬
The second day is going to be a symposium with expert speakers in their field, giving talks showcasing the broad applications of experimental approaches to archaeology. The symposium will open at 10:00 (walk-in starts at 9:30) and end at 17:00 with two breaks for lunch and coffee. To round up the two wonderful days we will finish with faculty drinks! 🗣️☕
