L.A.D. Situla

L.A.D. Situla is not only our oldest subgroup, but also regards the oldest period that L.A.S. Terra covers. Being responsible for all events regarding European Prehistory and the Middle Ages, Situla provides a mix of periods, cultures, and events.

Although this subgroup’s name comes from the Latin word for buckets, the name is more meaningful to Dutch archaeology than one might think. The chieftain’s grave of Oss features a “situla” used as an urn, which came all the way from across the Alps. This prehistoric find is one of the most important artefacts found in the Netherlands - and therefore a fitting name for our prehistoric subgroup. Join their sword fighting workshops, their Viking ship crafting event, or any other event they will host this year.

Meet the Subgroup Board

Zofia

Assessor

Hey there! My name is Zofia (she/her), and this year I‘m the assessor of L. A. D. Situla. I fell in love with the openness and warmth you would always find in the Terra office, and I want to continue with this tradition! For Situla this year, I want to include more Eastern European cultures in the events, as they often get sidelined. I also have a love for cooking and baking, so expect some more food-related events. See you around! :)

David

Subgroup Secretary

Hi, I'm David (he/him)! I'm a Dutch-Italian archaeology student, doing my second year here in Leiden. My interests include history (duh), genealogy, learning languages, and being exceptionally financially irresponsible. In terms of my studies, I aspire to become a battlefield archaeologist focusing on the First and Second World Wars. I'm the secretary for Situla (the best subgroup of course), which basically means I write emails and very poorly transcribe official board meetings.

Alec

Subgroup Treasurer

Hi hi! My name is Alec (He/Him), and I am the Situla Treasurer this year! What this entails is that I suffer through minor financial administration and the concept of math for everyone else’s sake. But, without this, Situla can’t organize the super awesome events we do. And who else can make European archaeology sound even cooler than it is? So, why not stop by? Maybe you will even spot me crying in the corner about Excel and receipt admin. B)

Finn

Subgroup Promoter

Hey! I’m Finn. A second-year student. You can use he/him or they/them for me, I really don’t mind either way! My interests are still quite sprawled out, ranging from Neolithic Scotland to the Viking Age to maritime archaeology and shipwreck archaeology with a dash of Ice Age archaeology. In my free time, I’m a cellist and an artist. Hence, I am the artist in residence/ promo man for Situla.
